Neighbours helping neighbours, one useful action at a time.
Antares is a volunteer-led non-profit bringing people together around practical poverty relief in Metro Vancouver.
A simple question around a table
Antares began with a conversation among five people: what can a small local organization do consistently, responsibly and well?
We knew we could not solve every cause of poverty, and we did not want to make promises larger than our resources. We chose to begin with something immediate and understandable—helping people access food, water, hygiene products and other basic necessities.
That decision shaped the Foundation. Antares is built around focused activities that volunteers can prepare carefully, supporters can understand clearly and people can receive with dignity.
Small things can change the shape of a difficult day
A meal does not end poverty. A cup of hot coffee does not solve the housing crisis. A bar of soap cannot remove every barrier a person faces. But these things still matter.
Practical help can provide comfort, reduce an immediate expense and remind someone that the wider community has not forgotten them. On a cold or rainy day, a warm drink and prepared food can make the next few hours easier. A hygiene kit can help someone feel more comfortable and prepared for an appointment, work opportunity or ordinary daily interaction.
We believe useful support should be offered without judgement or pressure. People should not have to join an organization, attend a class, participate in a religious activity, agree to publicity or make a contribution in return for basic assistance.
Antares is more than the people who founded it
A useful local charity grows through relationships. Food banks understand changing needs. Suppliers know what can be sourced economically. Volunteers bring time and energy. Supporters make it possible to purchase more essentials and reach people more regularly.
Our role is to connect those contributions to clear activities: direct neighbourhood outreach, food-bank support, and seasonal comfort and hygiene assistance.
We want every person who becomes involved to see where they fit into the story—and to understand the practical difference their support can make.
Values we can put into practice
Dignity
Every person deserves kindness, privacy and the freedom to accept assistance without unrelated conditions.
Practicality
We concentrate on useful essentials and activities that can be explained simply and carried out responsibly.
Community
Lasting local work depends on relationships with neighbours, food banks, suppliers, volunteers and supporters.
Preparing carefully, beginning realistically
Antares is currently preparing its first community activities. We are confirming practical arrangements, building relationships and organizing the supplies needed to begin.
Our initial goal is a steady monthly rhythm. One month may focus on direct outreach; another may support a local food bank or provide seasonal comfort and hygiene essentials. As dependable community support grows, the frequency and reach of the work can grow with it.
We would rather begin with one activity we can complete well than announce a long list of programs we cannot yet sustain. That focus is part of who we are.
You can become part of the next chapter.
Connect Antares with a community organization, contribute useful supplies, volunteer at a future event or help fund the essentials.
